How to Measure a Wall for WallpaperUpdated 5 months ago

Measuring your walls for wallpaper is an essential step to ensure you purchase the correct amount of material. Here's a quick guide to help you:

Tools you'll need:

  • Tape measure
  • Calculator
  • Pencil and paper
  • Ladder, if necessary

Steps to measure your walls:

1. Measure the height of the wall in feet. Measure from floor to ceiling. Write down the measurement.

2. Measure the width of the wall from one end to the other in feet. Write down the measurement. (Don't worry about doors and windows)

3. Calculate the total square footage. Multiple the height x width to get the SQFT for each wall. If you have multiple walls, repeat the measurements above and add the square footage together.

For example: If the wall is 8 feet height x 12 feet wide, the calculation is 8 x 12 = 96 SQFT.

4. Add an extra 10% for waste.

Tips:

  • Double check your measurements.
  • If the wallpaper has a pattern repeat, account for additional paper to be used.
  • Consider buying an extra roll to allow for mistakes, and possible future repairs.
